Florida has an opportunity to develop a statewide passenger rail system and virtually transform the way we connect people and business across our state. The only issue standing between $2.5 billion in federal dollars for high speed rail is a commitment from the Florida Legislature to support commuter rail. Commuter rail alone will provide over 110,000 construction jobs and over 30 years will generate 260,000 jobs and about $8.8 billion in economic benefit. This is a shovel ready project that could have been putting Floridians to work six months ago. With Florida’s unemployment rate at over 11 percent, the time to put people back to work is now. There is no time to wait. Please vote YES on commuter rail in December so we may secure federal dollars for high speed rail in January. Don’t let this historic opportunity pass us by again.
